BLR Airport

Bengaluru (Bangalore, old name) has a new international airport that opened earlier this year. The airport code is "BLR". There are non-stop flights to BLR from Europe, Middle East, Asia, etc. While there are direct flights to BLR from the US, there is not yet a non-stop announced.

For details and facilities at the aiport check out the BIAL site:

Travel to and from the BIAL

Well, you can always get a taxi, so that's not worth describing. And the taxi service is quite well organized. Soon you exit the airport with you baggage you are in a large lobby where there is an information desk. They speak English and you can get a lot information from them. Talk to them as to how you book a taxi - these are typically pre-paid so you are sure of the service. This is all very standard, and not worth describing. Let me instead focus instead on the bus to Bengaluru. I took it to check it out, and here is my (Ram's) biased opinion. Note - my flight arrived from Delhi and it was 10 in the morning. I did not do this in the middle of the night.

BIAL has an excellent bus service to and from Bengaluru city. There are a fleet of red colored BIAL Volvo busses that take you to different parts of Bengaluru. A few months ago when I was at Bengaluru, I tried this out to give you my report. This was far better than my expectation. I would do it again and would recommend it. The fares are very reasonable and one tenth the price of hiring a taxi. While I do not recall the exact numbers, I took the bus from the airport to Jayanagar, paying around Rs. 250. And it gets there just as fast as the Taxi. These Volvo buses are setup like the Hertz bus in the US, where there is rack for luggage and the seats are comfortable.

Soon you exit the airport you can't miss a huge parking lot full of busses. The frequency is good. There are different routes to different parts of the city so that minimizes makes the last mile problem. So there is a bus that will take you to the Bangalore City railway station, or the bus station - which is where most of our delegates would want to go to get to the next hop from Bengaluru to Mysuru.

Flight arrival and departure times

The foreign traveller who has not come to India before may be surprised that flights arrive in the middle of the night, and consequently also depart in the middle of the night. Therefore, when you learn that your flight arrives at 01:00 am, fear not. This is normal, and our taxi-rideshare is set up to pick you up in the middle of the night. And, when you depart, do not be surprised if your flight departs at 2:00 am. The other part of arriving at 1:00 am is that if you are coming from the US, do realize that you will be wide awake.

Taxi Ride Share for the Travelers from abroad

The World-Wide registration in US dollars includes a charge for a ride-share taxi from BLR to the Infosys Mysuru campus. Once registered we will collect from you your arrival and departure information to provide the transportation company. They will work out the logistics of the ride-share. We are hoping that several people will arrive close enough to each other that the ride-share logistics should work quite well. Details on this will be posted on the Taxi-Ride-Share page.

We have not arranged any ride-share for the Indian resident registration, assuming familiarity and personal choices on how one would want to go to Mysuru.
